Many people make their way to the office by car every day. But it’s not just the working environment itself that is constantly subject to new trends. The journey to work is also subject to new concepts. From ergonomic furniture to carpooling, Gen Z in particular is bringing new wishes and ideas to the workplace.
Ergonomics at the desk: The be-all and end-all for a productive working day
Ergonomics at the workplace is becoming increasingly important. After all, employees spend many hours of the day in front of a PC. Without the right furniture or equipment, this can lead to back problems and the like in the long term. When it comes to ergonomics, particular attention should be paid to the desk chair. It should not only be comfortable, but also provide maximum relief for the back. A good desk chair should have cosy upholstery, armrests and a neck support. The desk should also be as ergonomic as possible. This primarily relates to the working height. The height of the desk and chair should be adapted to the height of the user. This is the only way to adopt a natural posture. At the same time, however, there should also be sufficient room to move between the desk and the seat. You should be able to rest your arms at a right angle. The screen, in turn, should be at eye level, 50 centimetres away. A standing desk is also particularly practical for a long working day. This allows employees to work standing up during the day and relieve the strain on their joints. Working while standing has many advantages and can even boost productivity during the day. But here, too, care should be taken to maintain an upright posture.
Green to work: Carpooling is the future
In many companies, most employees have to arrive at work at the same time in the morning. So why not form a car pool? In a car pool, several employees join forces to commute to work together, so to speak. The travelling costs are shared as the group takes turns driving on a regular basis. For a car pool to work, some planning is of course required. There should be clear structures here. Depending on how many people are travelling, the “driver change” can take place weekly or daily, for example. In addition, a car pool only makes sense if colleagues from the same region are travelling together. Companies themselves can also serve as role models here. Sustainability can be established by the employer providing digital solutions or perhaps even a plan for carpooling.
Goodies for employees: Staying fit at work
Fitness goodies are becoming increasingly popular. Many potential employees even choose companies based on the benefits they offer. The goodies can look different. Walking pads are a simple way to make everyday office life a little more active. These are small treadmills that can be placed directly under the desk. Employees can exercise and do their work at the same time. But courses or memberships are also welcome in any company. For example, how about a yoga class together to start the working day or an annual pass to the local gym? In urban areas, bicycles or scooters can also be provided as a goodie for the commute to work. This keeps employees active and promotes the company’s image of sustainability at the same time.
